WHY(What's Hidden in You)
Values Assessment
A 20- minute assessment that explains why you do what you do - with a detailed report of your Values Archetypes.
Take the AssessmentYou are not defined by five value words.
Traditional values assessments ask you to pick words from a list. Honesty. Courage. Empathy..... and so on.
There are two problems with that:
The first: a value word means different things to different people. Courage (or humility or hard-work) looks different to you than to the person next to you.
The second: there is often a lot of difference between the behaviour a person describes and the behaviour they actually show. Pick your own words from a list and you get back a report that tells you - you have great values. It is mostly feel-good exercise.
Welcome to the world of Value Archetypes.
The WHY Values Assessment doesn't hand you value words to select from. Based on Jungian work, it uses active imagination - it puts you in situations imaginative enough that you make choices without knowing which of your beliefs they'll reflect back.
What you get is not a set of labels. It's an archetype.
You know what a gardener is. You know the core behaviours of a gardener - care, patience, service toward others. Those same values, said as abstract words - care, empathy, service - are intangible and mean something different to everyone. Say "I'm a gardener" and it clearly means something.
A value word asks you to intellectualise.
But an archetype speaks to your identity.
WHY Values Assessment reveals whether you're operating with two archetypes in play, or three - and whether that combination is creating a conflict within you, or outside of you. It will tell you if you're a warrior placed in a gardener situation. Or a gardener doing a job that requires you to be a warrior.
It also does something almost no values assessment does: it shows you the blind spots of over-clinging to your values. The parts of your value system you treat as absolute truth - which they are not.

What it measures
WHY Values framework maps two dimensions that sit underneath your stated values:
Self-concept. Do you see yourself as an individual - an apple - or as part of a collective - one grain in a pile of rice? Both are valid.
Drive. Everyone carries both task-focused energy (pushing, deciding, closing) and people-focused energy (holding, pacing, listening). Which one leads when you act?
Where these two dimensions meet, a pattern shows up. We call the five core archetypes anchors the Commander, the Architect, the Gardener, the Traveller and the Mediator - drawn from Jungian psychology and our own research into how people actually orient themselves.
And some of us are more than one archetype. The report also brings to light the combinations, the patterns that lead you and where the tension between them shows up in your decisions.
Who uses it
- Individuals making decisions about work, relationships or direction
- Founders and leaders wanting to understand their leadership impact, build teams, deal with conflict and take better decisions
- Coaches and therapists who want shared language with clients for the pattern under the repeated behaviours
If you work with clients and want to use the assessment in your practice, check the practitioner's hub.
What you get
A detailed report, generated immediately after you finish:
- Your value archetype - and whether two or three are in play
- Where the combination creates inner conflict, or conflict with the people around you
- The blind spots of over-clinging to your values
- A true picture of yourself - often a surprising one.

I've done values assessments before. How is this different? Those ask you to pick words and hand them back with interpretation. This never shows you a word list. It uses imaginative situations to reach the values you didn't choose - the hidden ones.
Will it label me? No. That's the point of archetypes. Labels pretend values are fixed; archetypes show you a living combination - what leads in you, what competes with it, what the tension creates.
What if it doesn't resonate? You'll still know more about your orientation than before you took it. If it truly doesn't land, write to us - we'd rather hear it than assume it went fine.
Is my data safe? Responses are used for scoring and, anonymised, for the ongoing research that keeps the instrument honest. We don't sell data. The privacy policy is [here].
Is this assessment reliable? The instrument went through multiple rounds of testing and statistical analysis (Jamovi 2.7.24). Internal consistency of Cronbach's alpha for this assessment is 0.914 (Excellent)
The invisible things define you
"The values that we live by, those invisible things that drive our behaviour, on and off the field, at work and at home, will ultimately define how people experience us, and how we will be remembered." Paddy Upton, The Barefoot Coach
